Walter Ellsworth Dunn, 98, passed away on January 8, 2017 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, IA. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., at the Ernst Funeral Home in Waukee, IA. Inurnment to follow at the Waukee Cemetery. Walter was born January 13, 1918 in Keokuk, IA to Ralph and Rhoda Dunn. On November 12, 1938, he married the love of his life, Nova Olivia Drummond, and together resided at 1528 Orleans Avenue. Walter worked at Dryden Rubber Company prior to WWII, when he went on to serve in the United States Navy from May of 1944 to January of 1946. After the war, he was employed by Hubinger Company until his retirement when the company was acquired by Heinz Corporation. Walter was an avid golfer throughout the years. Walter joined the Masons in 1948 and went on to be a life member and was a past Exalted Ruler. He was also a member of the Keokuk Elks Lodge since 1952. Walter and Nova moved to Waukee in 1989 and resided at 819 Brighton Drive up until May of 2016 when Walter moved to Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, IA. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk, and after moving to Waukee, he continued in church participation with the Waukee United Methodist Church. Walter is survived by his son Nathan (Pat) Dunn; six grandchildren Marsha (Paul) Talley, Brian Dunn, Scott (Jackie) Dunn, Andrew (Amanda) Dunn, Jason Dunn and Pamela James; eight great-grandchildren and 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Nova on May 8, 2007; son Richard Dunn on October 23, 2004; brother Ralph Dunn; sister Vivian Greenleaf and two nephews.
