Thomas Glenn Stott, known fondly as Tom, was a remarkable individual whose life's work left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of many. Born in Mason City, Iowa, on January 11, 1947, he embraced a career in education with a passion that inspired countless students and colleagues.
Throughout his professional journey, Tom served as a dedicated teacher and education professional at various locations including Council Bluffs Junior High, Bettendorf Middle and High Schools, Mason City CSD as Director of Technology, and as an Educational Consultant for the Apple Corporation. His commitment to shaping young minds extended to Glenview Middle School in East Moline, Illinois, where he served as Associate Principal.
In addition to his career accomplishments, Tom was an avid runner during his time at UNI, where he ran Track and Cross Country. Beyond the track and classroom, he found joy in stamp collecting and shared his melodic talents by singing in the Doo-Wops Barbershop Quartet and Chordbusters Chorus, as well as the church choir. His sense of community extended to his involvement in the Bettendorf Lions Club.
Tom's proudest accomplishments were rooted in his family life. He cherished spending time with his loved ones and found true happiness when he married the love of his life, Karen Helen Thompson, on August 1, 1970 in Elvira, Iowa. Their union was blessed with daughters Jenny and Becca. Tom took immense pride in being a loving grandfather to Bella, John, and Kameron and adored watching their many sporting events.
