Tom Dean, 62, of Waukee, formerly of Chariton and Red Oak, died on November 18, 2017, after a heart attack. A visitation will be held Monday, November 27, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ernst Funeral Home of Waukee. Memorial donations may be made to Waukee Christian Church or Waukee Public Library Friends Foundation.
Tom enjoyed hunting for dreaded morels with the family. He was a history buff and political junkie. Tom frequently served as an avid living room commentator for both the best and worst ISU football and basketball teams, cheered for the St. Louis Cardinals, and tried to be charitable toward the Chicago Cubs.
Tom retired last November from humping packages for UPS. After being diagnosed with melanoma late last year, his life goal was to have no regrets. His last wish was that his sons rake his yard by the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Tom and his sense of humor will be remembered by friends and family, including his wife, Kathy; their sons Sean of Adel, Christopher of Waukee and Nicholas (Katie) and grandchildren Blake and Owen of Adel; his mother Norma Dean of Bradenton, FL; siblings Jim (Bobbie) Dean of Sarasota, FL and Debbie (Dan) Kent of Lucas, IA and several nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.
Tom was preceded in death by his dad Bob Dean, his sister Jennifer Miller and Sadie, the family beagle.
