Shelly Lynn Elliott

August 8, 1970 — April 17, 2025

Clive, formerly of Greenfield

Shelly Lynn Elliott, a beloved educator, devoted mother, and cherished daughter, left this world following a brief illness on April 17, 2025, at her home in Clive, Iowa, after gracing the earth with her vibrant spirit since August 8, 1970. Born in Nebraska City, Nebraska, Shelly’s life was steeped in a passion for knowledge, an adventurous heart, and an unwavering love for family and friends.

For many years, Shelly dedicated herself to the noble profession of teaching, sharing her immense love for science with eager eighth graders. Her exuberance for the subject illuminated the minds of her students. Though she took a brief interlude from education to nurture and raise her family, the call of her first love drew her back, propelling her to continue imparting wisdom to future generations.

Her interests extended beyond the classroom; Shelly embraced life in its fullest form. Whether it was traveling through natural landscapes in the great outdoors or simply spending time at home with her family and her adored pets, her joy was infectious. She had a particular fondness for her cats and her loyal dog, Sam, who were her companions in adventures both big and small. Cooking and baking were a great passion, where she delighted in crafting meals that brought her family together, filling their home with warmth and laughter.

Shelly’s love for her family was absolute and profound. She leaves behind her beloved children: Jordan Elliott of Stevens Point, WI, Abigail Elliott of West Des Moines, IA, Aron Elliott of Waukee, IA, and Jayden Elliott of Clive, IA, who will carry her spirit forward as they navigate life with the values she instilled within them. Her parents, Ben and Patsy Lyons of Greenfield, IA, will forever cherish the vibrant daughter they raised, her laughter echoing in their hearts. Her sisters, Shannon Hoadley and Sharee Holder, both of Greenfield, IA, along with Sharla Lyons of Ankeny, IA, share a precious bond filled with indescribable memories and shared adventures. She also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

A visitation will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., both at Greenfield United Methodist Church, 108 SW 5th Street, Greenfield, IA 50849.
