Sandra Kae Hinrichs, 72, died Friday, September 27th, 2024 in West Des Moines, IA.

Sandra (Sandee) Kae Hinrichs was born April 16, 1952 in Bismarck, ND, to Martin and Arlene Landgrebe. She spent her younger years in Carson and Dickinson, ND before moving to Mohall, ND where she graduated high school. She received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of North Dakota, then furthered her education by receiving her masters degrees in Learning Disabilities from Minot State University and Counseling and Human Development from Moorhead State University.

Sandee spent most of her adult life in Dickinson, ND. She was a college instructor, Coordinator of the Learning Resource Center, and Director of Student Development at Dickinson State University. Sandee then taught special education and provided classes for emotionally disturbed students in the Dickinson public schools system.

Holidays in the Hinrichs household were always special. Sandee made extravagant meals for family and friends, and she was famous for her delicious Easter ham. She also had a passion for baking. She always baked the best monster cookies for her daughter to take along on her ski trips, and her children's friends raved over her 7-layer bars. They'd all gather around, forks in hand, eating straight from the pan.

Sandee spent a lot of time reading, writing and studying the Bible. After moving from Dickinson, Sandee lived in Arizona, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri. She continued to teach special education and especially had a passion for teaching children with autism and other learning disabilities. Her greatest joy was being a "Nanee" to her 3 grandchildren; Lucas, Vera, and Milo. They were the light of her life. Sandee yearned for Jesus her whole life, and it brings us peace knowing she is at home.

Sandee is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rachael and Joel Waddell, Clive IA; 3 grandchildren, Lucas, Milo and Vera Waddell; and her sister, Penny Potter of Gold Canyon, AZ.She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Lucas Hinrichs; and her beloved dog, Maddy.

A private celebration of life will be held on November 2, 2024 at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, IA with pastor Ben Mason officiating.
