Michael Victor Hope, born on November 7, 1959, in Hampton, Iowa, passed away on March 17, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. He leaves behind a legacy that resonates through the airwaves and in the hearts of those who knew him best.

Michael's illustrious career in radio broadcasting began when he was just 16 years old. His journey took him through various roles including on-air talent, voiceovers, sales, and production, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. With a voice that captivated and a passion for music that shone brightly, Michael was more than just a broadcaster; he was an artist who had an extraordinary ability to connect with people through sound.

Education was a cornerstone of his life. A proud graduate of Boone High School, he went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Drake University. During his high school years, he passionately participated in musicals, band and choir, nurturing a love for music that would follow him throughout his lifetime. He expressed this love not only through his voice but also through his skillful playing of the acoustic guitar, sharing his musical talents at numerous gigs around Des Moines and Okoboji. Michael was particularly fond of the spirit of creativity, having published, written, and produced original tracks that showcased his vast talent.

Beyond his engaging career, Michael adored his family profoundly. He married the love of his life, Susan Dawson, on June 15, 1985, in Earlham, Iowa. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter. They are the proud parents of Anna (fiancé Chris Synnestvedt) Hope, residing in Chicago, IL, and Jonathan (fiancée Ashley Teinert) Hope, of Destin, FL. Michael’s heart was full because he not only devoted himself to his profession but also cherished every moment spent with his children while they were growing up, actively coaching and supporting them in their pursuits.

Besides his wife and children, Michael is survived by his sister, Theresa (Jim) Jones, along with their children, Andrew Jones and Kristina (Jonathan) Griffin, all of Boone, IA. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, relatives, and countless friends who were touched by his kindness and genuine spirit. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Hope, and his beloved parents, George and Verna Hope.

Among his joys were his Golden Retriever "grand-pups," Kevin and Kona, who brought him immense happiness. Michael’s love of travel began at a young age, sparked by his father’s service in the US Air Force, which took them to live in Bangkok, Thailand, the Azores Islands, and various states across the country. He carried this passion into adulthood, sharing it with his family through memorable adventures—whether exploring the vibrant streets of New York City, embarking on cruises to far-flung destinations, visiting the historic cities and picturesque landscapes of Europe, or spending cherished moments boating and relaxing on the serene waters of Okoboji with loved ones.

Michael's visitation will take place on Monday, March 24, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, both at Lutheran Church of Hope, West Des Moines. Michael's service will be live-streamed and can be viewed via: https://wdm.lutheranchurchofhope.org/funeral-livestream/. Michael will be laid to rest at Lakeview Garden Cemetery in Okoboji during a private family committal.
