Max Allen Jones

January 11, 1947 — November 8, 2024

Waukee

Max Allen Jones, 77, of Waukee left us on November 8,2024 shortly after triple bypass surgery.

Max was born on January 11, 1947 to Lowell and Lenora Jones in Atlantic, Iowa. Max and his 3 brothers grew up in the Atlantic area and Max graduated from Atlantic High School in 1965.

It was in high school that Max met the love of his life, Vickie. They were married shortly after high school and spent the next 59 years together.

Max began a career with the railroad after high school. He worked for three different railroads, Rock Island, Chicago-Northwestern, and Union Pacific. The railroad took him to several different towns but Max and Vickie settled in Clear Lake for the last few years of his work on the railroad.

Max retired from the railroad in 2006 and he and Vickie moved to Waukee to be close to their children and grandchildren. Going to the grandkids activities was what Max enjoyed to do the most. He had attended countless sporting events as well as band and music activities. Max also spent a great deal of time with his grandkids doing things like fishing, playing golf, working on projects in the garage, basically anything that he and a grandkid could do together, he would be there.

Max is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vickie, six children Allen (Jennifer), Scott (Clarissa), Brenda, Mike, Christy (James), and Jason (Shannon). Also, by 15 grandchildren, Derek, Shelby, Taylor, Zachary, Ashley, Hannah, Jared, Cassandra, Abigail, Danielle, Faith, Gunner, Wil, Drew and Tate. And by three great-grandchildren, Ivy, Kason, and Rylee.

We will miss Max but will take comfort in the fact that he is no longer suffering.

No services are scheduled at this time. Memorial donations may be sent to the funeral home and directed to the family to be used for a yet to be determined cause.

Ernst Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Waukee has been entrusted with final arrangements.
