Mary (Anne) Smalley Culp, who was born July 4, 1934 to John Carl and Mary Lucille (Helbert) Smalley in Hayesville, OH, passed away on October 29, 2017 in Waukee, IA. Anne was preceded in death by sisters Betty Jane Schmahl and Helen Allene Sigler and husband Donald Eugene Culp. For 17 years, Anne worked at Iowa State University as Office Manager of the Industrial Relations Center and later Agricultural Research Secretary for Dr. Self. After her time at ISU, she was a pastor's assistant at St. John’s Lutheran Church and Walnut Hills Methodist Church, where she helped found the church. After her time at the church, she worked part-time for 10 years with Home Instead and was named Caregiver of the Year in 2007. Anne liked to say that she saved the best for last, which was being a pet sitter and dispatcher for Fetch! Pet Care. She loved meeting all the dogs and cats along with their "parents". Anne is survived by her sons Steve of Jefferson City, MO, Kevin (Debora) of Ames, IA, Eric (Lorrie) of Des Moines, IA and Adam (Deborah) of Johnston, IA. Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, both at Ernst Funeral Home in Waukee. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League.
