Marilyn J. Short passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, IA. She was born on December 4, 1929 in Burlington, IA to Merle and Miriam Butler. Marilyn spent her early years in Morning Sun, IA before moving to Des Moines at the age of 14 and graduating from Roosevelt H.S. in 1947.
On October 14, 1950, Marilyn married the love of her life, Ronald Short. After graduation, Marilyn went to work at Northwestern Bell until 1953, when she stepped away to raise her children and run the household. After her children were grown, she would return to Northwestern Bell as an Information Operator until her retirement in 1990.
Marilyn was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church for over 55 years and was active in LWML and the Altar Guild. She enjoyed walking, gardening and most of all, spending time with her family and friends.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter Marcella (Ronald) Roby of Alamo, TX; son Russell (Teresa) Short of Waukee; grandchildren Matt, Josh, Carmen, Carrie, Jordan, Jade, Seth, Anne and Lee; 19 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her special lunch bunch and Spurgeon Manor friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ronald Short; son Randal and his wife Robin Short and three siblings.
A funeral service will be held Monday, November 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, both at Ernst Funeral Home, Waukee. Interment to follow at the Booneville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marilyn’s memory to: Spurgeon Manor Educational Fund or Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.
