John Olen Bridger, born in Bethany, MO, on August 27, 1943, to Lloyd and Louesa (Nofstger) Bridger, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, October 13, 2024. Growing up in Southern Iowa, John graduated from Leon, Iowa schools in 1961. Following graduation, he spent time working for John Deere until he was drafted into the Army in 1962, where he honorably served for 18 months on the DMZ Line in Korea. After his time overseas, he returned to work at John Deere where he dedicated 30 years of his life until his retirement.
John married the love of his life, Joyce Marie Potter, on October 2, 1966, and they shared 58 wonderful years together, raising their two children, Michael and Cindy in Waukee, Iowa.
Post-retirement, John was known for his generosity and willingness to help friends, often assisting with home repairs and renovations. His true passion, however, was spending time in his workshop, crafting beautiful furniture, and cherishing moments with his granddaughters. For those that knew John, the workshop is where he was to be found for hours on end.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Bridger; his son, Michael (Mikael Jo) Bridger of Missoula, MT; his daughter, Cindy (Kenneth) Delaney of Waukee, IA; and his cherished granddaughters, Bailey Jo Bridger, Peyton Delaney, and Morgan Delaney, and his sister, Sue Gordon, as well as many other close family members. He is proceeded in death by his parents.
John’s granddaughters were his pride and joy. They believed their grandpa could fix anything, play slapjack like a pro, and he never let them leave without a handful of Tootsie Rolls. John’s legacy of family, love, kindness, and craftsmanship will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Private services will be held at a later date for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Waukee Fire Association, Waukee, Iowa.
Ernst Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Waukee have been entrusted with John's final arrangements.
