JoAnn Mae (Hanson) Belling was born March 30, 1939 to Mabel (Hedin) and Clifford Hanson in Roseau, MN. She passed away in West Des Moines, IA on July 25, 2024 at 85.
She was taught by her mother through 8th grade as she attended schools in Roseau, Euclid and Owatonna. She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1956 as Valedictorian. She received a degree in secretarial/office work from Mankato Commercial College.
She married Tom Belling on July 26, 1960. To this union were born sons: Keith, Wayne and Bruce. She worked in the photography studio earning the degrees of Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman. She was also awarded 2 National Service Awards.
Her hobbies included quilting, golf and music. She was a well-known quilter having taught in 35 states and Japan. She had a courageous nature and enjoyed soloing in an airplane as well as making a hole-in-one.
Most important to JoAnn was her deep spiritual belief, beginning at age 12 and continuing thru life. She and Tom had an open home for fellowship and gatherings over the years. She was a great encouragement to her husband, family and grandchildren. She shared her mother’s love for learning and studying the Bible.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents and husband Tom. She is survived by her sons Keith (LaGaya), Wayne (Shari) and Bruce (Randi), as well as grandchildren Dakota, Elizabeth (Ethan), Tyler (Jenn), Corbin (Anne), Brooke (Will), Tad (Nicole), Doug (Kylie), Bryan (Skye), Matt and several great-grandchildren. Other family members include her sister Jan (Roger) Wimer of WA, brother-in-law Lyle (Dione) Belling of MN, brother-in-law Ralph Kolbeck of GA and many nieces/nephews.
A visitation will be held Friday, August 2, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ernst Funeral Home, Waukee. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., also at Ernst Funeral Home. JoAnn will be laid to rest next to her husband Thomas at the Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes, Iowa.
