Jeffery Aaron Thorson, fondly known as Jeff, was born on February 20, 1976, in Denver, Colorado. He lived a life filled with generosity, compassion, and dedication, embodying the roles of a loving husband, father, son, friend, and leader. Jeff passed away on January 12, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.

A dedicated professional, Jeff worked as a Senior Data Engineer with notable organizations including Pharmerica, Cabelas, and most recently, Farm Bureau. His contributions to his field were significant, and he is remembered by colleagues and peers for his expertise and collaborative spirit.

Outside of his career, Jeff had a vibrant personality and an array of interests that showcased his zest for life. He was passionate about RC car racing and metal detecting, and enjoyed bowling with the support of STORM Bowling. Additionally, he found joy in shooting pool, throwing darts, fishing and cherished his moments grilling meats and cooking while always enjoying a Mountain Dew Code Red. Beyond hobbies, Jeff devoted time to coaching youth basketball, nurturing the skills and confidence of young athletes in his community, as well as engaging in woodworking projects that reflected his creativity.

Jeff is survived by his beloved wife, Kim Thorson, sons Jayden Thorson of West Des Moines and Zach (Montana Hill) Thorson of Norwalk. He is also survived by his father, Steve Thorson of West Des Moines, and his brother Randy (Kathy) Thorson of Westminster, CO. He leaves behind a network of relatives including his uncles, Brad (Robin) Thorson of Minnetrista, MN, and Greg (Ellen) Thorson of De Soto, MO, as well as his aunt Valerie Kranhold of Aberdeen, SD, and numerous cousins, co-workers, members of the DTH family, his RC racing community and countless friends. Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Cecilia Thorson; his brother, Jim (Gina) Thorson; his grandfather, Roy Thorson; and his aunt, Debbie Hickman.

The family will hold a celebration of life gathering to honor Jeff’s life on February 1, 2025, at Ernst Funeral Home in Waukee, Iowa, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon; with a time of prayer and messages at 10:00 a.m. As we gather to remember Jeff, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit. His impact on his family, friends, and community will be felt for years to come.
