Ernie W. Harms, 71, of Des Moines, IA, formerly of George, IA, passed away Nov. 5, 2017 at the Perry Lutheran Home. Ernie was born October 8, 1946 near George, IA, to Wesley E. and Alma (Beek) Harms. He graduated from the George H.S. in 1965. In 1984, he and his aunt Ruth Beek started the Tarko Doll Co. in George. After a few years, he sold his interest in Tarko and moved to Des Moines where he started the St. George Doll Co. and continued in the porcelain doll business for many years. These dolls were sold at various state fairs and as fundraisers for many communities. In 2002, he became the caregiver for his aunt Ruth, who passed away in 2007. Graveside Services will be held Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 11:30 a.m., at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA. Refreshments to follow at the George Community Meeting Room. Ernie is survived by sisters Sandra Clinton of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Wanda Middle of Urbandale, IA; three nieces and two nephews along with their families; and numerous Beek and Harms cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ardis Harms.
