Dorothy Ort

Dorothy Ann Ort, age 82, passed away on July 15, 2024, at MercyOne West Lakes Medical Center in West Des Moines. She was born to Burney and Mary Ann Ort in Lake City, Iowa on April 15, 1942.

Throughout her life, Dorothy was known for being very sociable - never meeting a stranger and always bringing warmth to all those around her. After graduating from Perry High School, she embarked on a successful career in the insurance industry, retiring from IMT Insurance as a Senior Territorial Insurance Representative. She found joy in trying her luck out with the occasional casino visit, swim classes and water aerobics with the ladies at the YMCA and sharing regular lunches with her close-knit group of friends.

Dorothy's impact extended far beyond career and hobbies. She touched the lives of many individuals who had the privilege of knowing her and her generosity and unwavering friendship enriched the lives of those around her. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Burney and Mary Ann Ort, sister Carolyn Rice and nephew Tom Aeschliman.  She is survived by her sister Kathy (Darrell) Stark of Lubbock, Texas, niece Tressa M. Aeschliman-Upton from Des Moines, great-niece Camry Renee Upton also from Des Moines, brother-in-law Jim Rice from Des Moines, nephew Eric Stark, niece Vanessa Stark and best friend Toni McCrary, along with numerous extended family members and friends.

A Graveside Service to honor and celebrate Dorothy's life will be held on July 18, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Waukee Cemetery in Waukee.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Dorothy's memory to: Macular Degeneration Research.
