Dennis Ray Cooper

   Dennis Cooper, age 72, died on July 28, 2023 at the V.A. Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Mr. Cooper, better known by friends and family as Coop, is survived by his daughters: Kerry Feldmann, of St. Charles, IA, and Jessica Cooper, of Norwalk, IA. He also has six grandchildren: Caleb Gunderson, Madelyne Feldmann, Brianna Feldmann, Kacie Feldmann, Abrynn Shany and Lyric Tripp and one great-grandchild, Nikko Shany.

   Coop is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served honorably with the United States Army, earning the National Defense Service Medal. After being honorably discharged, Coop took his knowledge of auto mechanics and returned home to help on the family farm. He was a great believer in education. He earned a degree in computer technology and a certificate in auto mechanics and body repair. His love of tinkering with things stuck with him well past retirement, during which he spent his time rebuilding tractors and bicycles.

   The only love that outshined his passion for tinkering was his love for his grandchildren. Although separated by many miles, Coop made it his priority to attend wrestling matches, football games, dance recitals and high school and college graduations. He was a wonderful grandfather, and his presence will be sorely missed.

   In addition to his children and grandchildren, Coop is survived by his sisters: Pat, Kathleen and Virginia; his brother, Donald; and we mustn’t forget his dog, Sally, lovingly known as Sal. Coop is welcomed into heaven by his father, Vernon; his mother, Leona; his brothers, Dale and Daniel; and the forever beautiful, Lori Snipes.

   A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Waukee Cemetery.

   Ernst Funeral & Cremation Services of Waukee has been entrusted with Dennis’ final arrangements.
