David Allen Kovalsky

David Allen Kovalsky, 59 of Waukee, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Dave was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on October 2, 1962 to Edward and LaDonna (McClelland) Kovalsky. He would go on to graduate from Martins Ferry High School before proudly serving his country for six years in the United States Army. On May 25, 1996, he married the love of his life, Janet Miller. Together they resided in Des Moines before settling in Waukee for the past 22 years. Dave was involved in the trucking industry for over 35 years, most recently working for XPO Logistics before his passing.

Dave was an avid sports fan who enjoyed rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed summer camping trips with his family, fishing, playing bunko and poker and most recently mastering smoking meats. Dave loved his family and friends dearly. He “never knew a stranger” and was always one of the first to offer up help to others.

Dave is survived by his wife Janet of Waukee; sons Christopher of Urbandale and Justin of Waukee; and numerous in-laws, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ed Kovalsky.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Ernst Funeral Home in Waukee. A funeral mass will be held Monday, January 24, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a yet to be determined cause.
