Christy Ellen Hopkins

Christy Hopkins, 67, of Grimes, died September 10, 2020 at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines, following a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

A Private Celebration of Chris’ Life will be held at Jester Park Lodge, Granger, IA. Interment will follow later that afternoon at the Newell, IA Cemetery.

Christy Ellen Simons Hopkins, daughter of Clyde and Elva (Iversen) Simons was born on October 23, 1952 in Storm Lake, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Storm Lake.

Chris graduated from Storm Lake High School (Class of 1970) and Iowa Methodist School of Nursing (1973). She faithfully served Des Moines area hospitals and nursing homes as a Registered Nurse for four decades, retiring from Woodward Academy in  2017. Retirement allowed her to energetically pursue her love of gardening and crafting.

Chris will be lovingly remembered for her generosity of spirit and her giving heart, especially when it came to her grandchildren.

Surviving Chris is her husband of twenty-one years Steve Hopkins (Grimes), son and daughter-in-law Adam and Callie Simons (Adel); grandchildren Colten Cebuhar (Ankeny), Barrett, Berkeley and Brinley Simons (Adel); stepsons and their families Mike and Lisa, Joey and Brooke Hopkins (West Des Moines), Dan and Cheri, Fisher, Ella and Nalea Hopkins (West Des Moines), sister Elayne Simons Stover (Ankeny), and a host of  cherished extended family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Larry Bruce Simons, son Andrew Cebuhar, brother-in-law Walter Stover, Jr.
